short in the wire somewhere. possibly alternator putting out to much voltage. i would take the alternator back off and have it tested. then check all the wires that go to it for cracks, melting, places it might have rubbed through on something metal, broken or corroded terminals, etc.

I would guess that you didn't get a wire re-connected properly.

At this point, you get to sit down with the wiring diagram and work from one end of the circuit to the other until you find your problem. It's joyful fun.

There are a couple shop manuals available here that they might have a good diagram of the circuit that you can use.

that fuse is for field current to the alternator, and the fuel pump, and also the voltage regulator inside of the alternator, it has nothing to do with to much voltage

ground for the fuel pump should be somewhere in the harness pretty close to the pump, i know there's a ground strap attached to one of the pump hold down nuts. if this started after working under the hood, check the harness plug in the back of the alternator and work that way, there's probably a worn spot in the harness, check wherever wires come near metal, or near a sharp point
