    Info : B18A/B distributor on B20A

If you have a B20A and you'd like to get rid of your stock ignition coil and the exhaust cam sensor housing or if you want to use B18A/B camshafts without cutting a slot in the exhaust cam for the sensor, you can use a B18A/B (integra LS) distributor with small modifications.

As far as space goes it's just perfect on the B20A to fit an LS dizzy, it clears everything on the head, and also 1 of the 3 mounting ears will fit with no mods. All you have to do is grind/drill out the 2 other mounting ears to fit the B20A head.

Depending on what OBD youre running on your B20A there's 3 different B18A/B distributors you'd have to choose from:
OBD-0 : uses two round connectors
OBD-1 : uses two square connectors
    OBD-2 : uses 1 square connector

(this goes for other Honda distributors as well)

While you're at the junkyard grabbing one of these distributors remember to get the other ends of the wire connectors with you as well so you'll be able to wire it up cleanly.

The B18A/B spark plug wires will also fit your B20A if you wish to use those as well.

If you want to use B18A/B camshafts you must be aware that you need to remove approximately 4-5mm of the camshafts in the cam gear end of the cams, otherwise the timing belt could walk off the cam gears since it will not be situated in the center of the gears.

Pics of an Integra LS distributor and plug wires mounted on a B20A:

I will be making an aluminium block off flange that will cover the gap from the now missing exhaust cam sensor housing and seal it off but you can also just put in a plug as used on B18A/B engines if you dont care too much about looks.
When I get the distributor modified and the block off flange done I'll post up some new pics.

Please note that a distributor like this is not needed to be able to use the ordinary OBD-1 ecu's, the stock B20A distributor will do that job fine for you as well.

I heard that you can use the B18A/B Cam holder to mount the distributor. This way, it should match the ear and you won't need to mod the distributor at all.

But if you like I dont have access to junk cars with B18A/B's (or B20B/Z's) that you can steal one of them from, you can always do it this way. And afterall it's a pretty easy job to do.

Oh, I forgot about that part. Yeah, it's easy to do it this way (even easier in fact)

If you like, I could send you that exhaust cam rubber plug if you need it.

ok thanks I'll keep that in mind! But first off I'll try grooving the block off flange for an o-ring to make that seal it up. Cams are in the machine shop getting shortened as we speak and I'm heading for the dyno tomorrow to do a base tune for the engine

You need to get a hold of some of the UK guys to get that one. That's from a UK 88-89 2.0i-16 Accord. Here in Denmark it's KM/H in our gauges.

Looks very much like the unit from the 4G Accord Wagons. Possibly could get the 3G Prelude unit to swap over too.

the 3rd gen lude distributor and exhaust cam sensor is a direct swap for the B20A but they're also the same apart from the appearance of them.

    Nice!

This means we have 2 ears to bold the distributor with that cam holder. Is it solid enough or do we have to mod the distributor to install the 3rd bolt?

This dizzy would be viable to go obd1 anyway. This seems like less of a hassle anyway, for that purpose.

Using a different elec. advance distributor (like a lude b20a5 one) requires some wiring to get obd1 done.

I think I will do this now in the spring. THanks for the post about this distributor

interesting idea. not to take away from this thread, but I wonder if the sohc obd1 f22 accord distributor mount would work on an a20 head. could make the obd1 dizzy a literally bolt on affair. :)

This is the best picture I could find:

Btw remember to check that the tolerance is correct between the new cam caps and the camshafts with some plasticgauge!
